AutoTap and Dual AutoTap for Tapped Density measurements

For powders and granular materials, the volume occupied by a given weight of product depends strongly on the degree of compaction - this bulk density is generally highly variable and depends on the history and storage conditions of the material. Tapped Density measurements remove this variability, by obtaining a known, reproducible degree of compaction.

The AutoTap instrument subjects a sample in a graduated cylinder to a number of mechanical disturbances, by tapping with a controlled force, which is determined by a drop of known height. This gives a highly reproducible degree of compaction. Simultaneous rotation of the cylinder gives a horizontal surface which allows the user to simply read the volume from the marked scale.

  • AutoTap accepts a range of available cylinder sizes from 10ml to 1000ml.
  • Programmable number of taps.
  • Lockable controls, to prevent inadvertent modification.
  • Suitable for standard measurements, including: ASTM B527, ASTM D4164, ASTM D4781, IDF 134, ISO 787-11, ISO 3953, ISO 8460, ISO 8967, ISO 9161, JIS K5101-12-2, JIS Z 2512, MPIF 46, USP<616>Method II
  • Dual-AutoTap allows simultaneous measurement of two samples for greater throughput.
  • Allows calculation of Carr index/Compressibility index, Hausner index, etc.
  • Measurements of envelope density are possible, by using a fine free-flowing powder which conforms to the external surface of granular materials and solid pieces.
